WASTE / CONTAMINATED SITES, GEOTECHNICS

Heidelberg Railway City

Project details

BAHNSTADT HEIDELBERG

As a result of the closure of the former freight and marshalling yard, the former railway area covering a total of 116 ha is to be restructured in terms of urban development to form the new district "Bahnstadt". In order to prepare the area, a variety of measures are to be carried out, such as the dismantling of buildings and technical facilities, the remediation of contaminated sites and soil improvement measures.
In the course of implementing the development work, an area-wide soil and mass management was realised, which essentially takes into account soil protection, waste, geotechnical, species protection and infrastructural concerns and requirements as well as the clearance of explosive ordnance. In total, more than 1,200,000 m3 of soil and other mineral masses will be moved during the preparation of the area.
