Achern former glassworks / Environmental and geotechnical engineering

Project details

Quartier Glashüttenareal Achern

Development of an industrial area into a residential area

The Karl Group acquired the eleven-hectare site of the former glassworks in 2015 in order to develop the industrial area, which had been closed down since 2012, in urban terms and to convert it into a new residential area. In the process, all environmental risks and contaminated sites that had arisen from the previous use as a glass factory had to be identified and eliminated. In this context, MuP Umwelttechnik GmbH was commissioned with services in the fields of geotechnical engineering, waste and environmental engineering as well as soil and groundwater remediation. The area remediation was carried out by soil replacement and, in partial areas where groundwater remediation was required, by a biological in-situ process.
